Lunula Packaging Design

Overview
Lunula Nails is a fictional brand developed to sell press-on nails to women who want affordable looks and beautiful salon styles.
The purpose of this assignment was to develop useful and effective packaging for a product of my choice. I decided on press-on nails as they are something I have just recently started wearing to protect my natural nails while still being expressive.

My role & process
I worked on this project for a full semester. During this time I empathized with potential users, solidified research, completed the design process, and developed a purchase platform.
The problem I had with this assignment was figuring out how I was going to market this packaging. There are not many campaigns for press on nails and many brands use accessibility of aisle traffic to gain sales. I quickly found that two types of packaging were needed for this fictional company a specialty box that can be ordered online and a box that could be quickly displayed in stores so that it is readily available to everyone.
What I did in the first month of research and planning:
- Compare large and small businesses to find what consumers are missing
- Find customer demographic
- Research dielines for successful packaging
The brainstorming process for this project took some time. I wanted to connect the half-moon located at the bottom of the nail (the lunula) and reference the phases of the moon. Below are some sketches and starting points of early concepts.

During this stage, I landed on typography that felt like it catered to my chosen demographic and communicated well based on surveys I conducted with other students located on campus. I also developed a color palette and usage for my packaging.

By the end of the semester, I was able to:
- Create a logo and variations
- Complete a website for point-of-purchase
- Establish a cohesive color pallet
