Project
Museum Brand Identity
Client
Student Project
Overview
The purpose of this assignment was to develop a brand identity for a fictional museum that would be set to be built in Galveston, Texas. The museum would focus on celebrating the emancipation of slaves in 1865. The client wanted to incorporate a message with strong historical ties without a somber tone. I implemented a five-step system to create a design centered around the user.

My role & process
I worked on this project for a total of 4 months. During this time I solidified research, created a logo mark, curated typography, and developed a brand identity.
I decided to draw inspiration from Adinkra symbols because they have an immense historical impact that date back to slavery. When researching other museum practices I began to realize many museums use monograms or singular letters to represent themselves.
During the ideation stage, I like to brainstorm as many ideas as I can. In Adobe Illustrator, I completed around 200 sketches and started my elimination process. After several days of narrowing down my logo ideas I began to work on a cohesive color palette. Below are some sketches based on Adinkra symbols.
I landed on my top sketches from Illustrator and explored color palettes, appropriate scales, and logo variations. From this, I selected the most useful images and began to test.

During the testing stage I conferred with my peers to gain feedback and critiques. I took the minimal feedback and applied final tweaks and adjustments.
By the end of the semester, I was able to take the brand identity and create:
- Logo and Variations
- Completed 50 page brand book
- Stationary Materials
- Museum promotional items
